Who Am I?

My name is John-Paul Pagano. I write about politics, culture, and intellectual history.

Specifically, I write about totalitarian and utopian ideas and movements, especially as they relate to anti-Semitism and modernity. I also examine the failure of liberals and "progressives" to grapple with them morally or effectively. You'll read a lot here about these themes and how they relate to Israel, Zionism, liberal democracy, socialism, radical Islam, the "War on Terror", racism, victimology, millenarianism, and conspiracy theories.

I grew up in the Boston area and have been living in NYC -- mostly Brooklyn -- for nearly 20 years. I also like photography, mom-and-pop ethnic food, and down-home die-like-a-dog jazz.
